Gorges du Verdon — Day Loop
Suggested schedule · Single day, ~80 km
🏞
Morning · 08:00
Depart Castellane
Fill up fuel — no stations in the gorge. Take the D952 (Route des Crêtes) west. Early start beats tourist traffic by 2 hours.
Midday · 11:30
Point Sublime viewpoint
Park and walk to the rim. Full gorge panorama — cliff walls 700m deep. Allow 30 min. Café Auberge des Cavaliers nearby for lunch.
Afternoon · 14:00
Corniche Sublime (D71)
Switch to the south road. Tighter, more dramatic — hugs the cliff edge. Balcon de la Mescla is the unmissable stop before Moustiers.
Late afternoon · 16:00
Moustiers-Sainte-Marie
Wander the Provençal village under the cliff-suspended golden star. Faïence pottery shops, terraced cafés, perfect end-of-loop stop.
Evening · 18:30
Return to Castellane
D952 east back through the valley. Light is golden — the best riding light of the day. Book ahead in summer (July–August).
